joe

i am no expert. i had a terrible time when first posting, had a lot of help here.
heres a little tip/ the problem maybe that your puictures are too big. i am not clever with resizing pictures but what i do is post the picture to myself via e mail. this resizes the picture so that it will download here. i then save the picture to floppy disc and carry out instructions as above posting.
it works for me. good luck.

What are you trying to post and from where - a photo hosting site?

Dave,

Let's agree : if it works for you, then it is a good system. I too sometimes do (or used to do) strange complicated things that for others are just a piece of cake. (I remember I used to send e-mails with pics to myself too, I think that was because I didn't know how to copy at the time ! :unsure:

So you yourself must have an e-mail system that automatically resizes the sent pics. Mine does not, or better : I can choose between the original size, and 3 different degrees of resizing. (I think it is because I am using Mozilla Thunderbird ? Or has it got to do with my Photo Editor ? Don't know...)

When I want to resize I click on a button showing a drop down menu one of which says Resize. And then I resize to a certain percentage, often in twice or three times, until the result (which I have to check) descends below the limit of 200 kB. (And often that is approx. 800 pixels wide). But often it is a trial and error. But I think that is the "fun" (?) of it. (Important principle : always resize on a copy, or give the resized version before saving a different name ! Or else ...)

As far as I know there are programmes that make it a lot simpler.

And there is another interesting way, more social : sending the pic to a Forum member and asking him to resize it below 200 kB, and to send it back. B)

Joe

If you follow the instructions by West yorks you can easily post but as others have mentioned, the chief problem concerns the size of the file. On this forum the picture size is up to 200 kb (on GWF the limit is 100kb).

The easiest method I know is in photoshop where you resize to around 800 and then save to web to obtain the best quality for posting.

As most don't have phtotoshop the alternative method is to use Microsoft's Office Picture Manager as follows:
Create a new folder in your directory called for, for example, 'For Posting'
Go to jpeg file in your directory and double click on the name - this will bring up the picture in Photo Manager;
Go to file and click on Export;
When the export details come up on the Export selected files to page
- at top right go to browse an find 'For Posting' in your directory and go through the process;
- Alternatively you can rename you file;
Then go down the right hand side and click on resize
This will bring up the Resize Settings page - click on custom width and height circle and adjust the height as required
Then click on Return to export
Then click on OK

When you go to the directory you will see that you now have a smaller picture.

The enclosed picture started off as 1315 kb, reduced to 800 x 408 pixels it came down to 67kb. Experimentation would enable larger sized pictures to be posted

I realise it sounds complicated but it is really easy and quick

Bernard
