hello this is my 1st post on this forum tho I am a gwf old sweat, when I go to the salient I take pauls nigels books which I find excellent,I also have then and now salient/somme,the thing I like about all the battlefield series books are they fit easly in your pocket, when I go to diff places it would be nice to have sim to then and now but pocket size so you can visualise what you are seeing now with what it was like then,
I am off again to the salient start of dec and after seeing the topic about the steenbeek want to track that down along with harrys memorial,I do not have any trench maps and if I did probaly wouldnt be able to make head or tail of details.if I were to buy a trench map cd would I be able to print and take with me but how do I interpretate what im looking at biff |

The Trench Map CD comes with very versatile software which enables you to print off exactly what you want. As many roads in the Salient remain very similar to the WW1 period then it is quite easy to navigate around using the Trench Map. If you look at my post St Julien - Salient Stroll http://ypres1917.3.forumer.com/index.php?s...ic=700&st=0&hl= you can get an idea of the maps and the general area. The monument you are after is farther north so off my maps. Some other member should be able to guide you regarding its location but a separate post may get a quicker response. Bernard |

hi dave, sorry for delay the directions I have are
go past langermarck cem on your right toward langermarck village, turn right at the church, drive away from village at the first roundabout go left. drive with the milk factory ahead on the right,go around a left hand bend,IMMEDIATELY look to your left harry plaque 25yrds from the road,it is easily missed,I hope these directions are of help and are correct as im over ieper way 4th dec and am going to follow them so if you get lost so will I,if you do get lost on that road look out for a factory chimmney and your not to far from the yorkshire trench,so all isnt wasted biff |

Here's some maps - modern one with the arrow pointing out the memorial spot and one from a war diary indicating the frontage of the 7th DCLI on 16 August 1917.
